Random Things for the "Older" Folks

I found this on Amy’s blog! Since I just had my 43rd birthday on Tuesday, this seems to fit. :o)

Tired of all of those surveys made up by high school kids? Have you ever kissed someone? Missed someone? Told someone you loved them? Drank alcohol? Here you have 39 questions for the people who are a little older…

1. What bill do you hate paying the most? Credit Card - we usually pay it off each month, so it's a doozy!

2. Where was the last place you had a romantic dinner? We went out for our anniversary in February to a new restaurant downtown...can't remember the name of it, but it was nice and it was romantic since it was just the two of us.

3. What do you really want to be doing right now? Taking a nap!

4. How many colleges did you attend?
Two. Southern Ohio College and Liberty University

5. Why did you choose the shirt that you have on right now? Because it was clean and short sleeves

6. What are your thoughts on gas prices? They went up *again* last night!

7. First thought when the alarm went off this morning? "uggghhh"

8. Last thought before going to sleep last night? Praying for my kids

9. Do you miss being a child? Sometimes...only because I'd like to sit on my Daddy's lap one more time and because I'd like to change some things I did.

10. What errand/chore do you despise? Going to Wal-Mart

11. Get up early or sleep in? I like to sleep in until about 8:00, but try to get up earlier to get my quiet time done.

12. Have you found real love yet? Absolutely!

13. Favorite lunch meat? I don't think I have one. I like turkey breast and bologna on occasion

14. What do you get every time you go into Target? It varies...last time was water balloons. :o)

15. Beach or lake? Beach

16. Do you think marriage is an outdated ritual? Absolutely not!

17. Sopranos or Desperate Housewives? Neither

18. What famous person would you like to have dinner with? Glen Beck -- only because Neal would love it!

19. Have you ever crashed your vehicle? Yes

20. Ever had to use a fire extinguisher for its intended purpose? No

21. Ring tone? Ring, Ring ;o)

22. Strangest place you have ever brushed your teeth? camp site

23. Somewhere in California you’ve never been and would like to go? I've only been to San Diego, so I would like to see the rest of the state. :o)

24. Do you go to church? Yes

25. At this point in your life would you rather start a new career or a new relationship?
Neither :o) I wouldn't mind starting a new career down the road. I'm not opposed to starting new friendships, but I don't feel like I spend enough time with the friends that I have now.

26. How old are you? As I said above...I turned 43 this past Tuesday (May 19th)

27. Are you where you want to be in life? Yes, but I'm not where I'd like to be with "me"

29. Growing up, what were your favorite cartoons? Scooby Doo and the Jetsons

30. What about you do you think has changed the most? My boldness..I'm not as shy as I used to be.

31. Looking back at high school, were they the best years of your life? Not even close! Life just keeps getting better and better.

32. Are there times you still feel like a kid? There are a few people in my life that I tend to feel "immature" around. I hate that feeling though.

33. Did you ever own a troll doll? No

34. Did you have a pager? No

35. Where was the hang out spot when you were a teenager? Friend’s houses

36. Were you the type of kid you would want your children to hang out with? For the most part

37. Who do you think impacted your life the most? Everyone I'm friends with have impacted my life to a certain extent, but I would say my Mom and my husband

38. Was there a teacher or authority figure that stood out for you? Two of my friends moms -- Daisy and Johnny

39. Do you tell stories that start with “when I was your age”? You know it! It's my turn now! :o)

The Simple Woman's Daybook - Dec 1

Please visit The Simple Woman's Daybook on Mondays, to learn more and find links to other ladies who are participating.

For Today...

Outside my window...naked trees

I am thinking...that I'm glad our Christmas tree is up and decorated!

From the learning rooms...along with our "book learning" today, our kids have been working on their housekeeping skills! :o)

I am thankful for...my warm home and the smell of soup cooking on the stove.

From the kitchen...Turkey Vegetable Soup

I am wearing...blue sweatpants and a Navy t-shirt.

I am reading...my Bible and The Old Schoolhouse Magazine.

I am hoping...that the weather is nice this weekend when Mom and I go to Colonial Williamsburg.

I am creating...a mess! (putting up Christmas decorations)

I am hearing...music from my daughter's blog.

Around the house...cleaning up after decorating, laundry, need to write Christmas cards...today I made soup, wrote out bills (and hand delivered one), did school with the kids, caught up on my blogs, visited briefly with my best friend.

One of my favorite things...listening to Christmas music.

A few plans for the rest of the week...tomorrow is a Ladies Night Out and cookie exchange, Wednesday is church and shopping, Thursday is piano and shopping, Friday and Saturday will be spent in Williamsburg with my Mom (our 2nd annual Mother/Daughter Christmas shopping trip)

Here is a picture thought I am sharing with you...

Memories from our weekend away at the cabin.

Thanksgiving Quiz

I found this on Linda's blog and thought it looked like fun:

You Are The Stuffing

You're complicated and complex, yet all your pieces fit together.

People miss you if you're gone - but they're not sure why.

I'm not too sure how I feel about this!!!

Neal's Addition to the Husband Meme

I know many people do not read the comments, so I thought I would post what Neal wrote about the previous "Husband Meme."

I would also have to add liver, cooked carrots, and salmon to foods I don't like.

I like any kind of sandwich that I happen to be eating that particular day - but my favorite is a Whopper with extra pickles. Other than that I will eat anything if necessary. I am ready for the Great Depression II where we have to eat rocks and twigs and stuff like that including the parts that now go into souse and hotdogs.

I REALLY dont like sweaters - they are hot and itchy and you can't take them off.

So, there you go...Neal's revision to my aforementioned post! But my question is "what is souse???"

Husband Meme

I read this over at Marsha's blog, and thought it would be fun to do!

1. He's sitting in front of the TV, what is on the screen? He's watching Fox News or Spongebob!

2. You're out to eat; what kind of dressing does he get on his salad? It would depend on the restaurant and the salad. If he gets his favorite Buffalo Chicken Salad, then he would order Blue Cheese Dressing. His favorite dressing at home is Ranch.

3. What's one food he doesn't like? There's not much he doesn't like, but I'd say his two least favorite food items are sweet potatoes and cinnamon.

4. You go out to the bar. What does he order? We don't go out to bars, but he occasionally has to go with work. I think he orders sweet tea or a soft drink.

5. Where did he go to high school? Amherst County High School in Amherst, VA.

6. What size shoe does he wear? 9.5 wide

7. If he was to collect anything, what would it be? Hmmm...probably tools

8. What is his favorite type of sandwich? This is so difficult because he doesn't get stuck on one of anything...however, I would guess and say a Club sandwich from Subway. (what would you say, Neal?)

9. What would he eat every day if he could? Probably a spinach salad. He loves anything green!

10. What is his favorite cereal? He doesn't eat cereal anymore, but when he did his favorite was Basic 4.

11. What would he never wear? As soon as I'd say he'd never wear something, he'd probably wear it. But I know he has a strong dislike for sweaters!

12. What is his favorite sports team? This one's easy: Virginia Tech Hokies Football team!

13. Who did he vote for? McCain/Palin!

14. Who is his best friend? That would be...ME! :o)

15. What is something you do that he wishes you wouldn't do? Snore!

16. How many states has he lived in? Two: Virginia and Georgia

17. What is his heritage? Redneck! lol No, I'm not really sure. His family's like mine...we've been here in America for more years than any of us know!

18. You bake him a cake for his birthday; what would it be? Trouble! He hates cake (oh, I forgot that one up above!!) I usually make him a big cookie or a cheesecake.

19. Did he play sports in high school? No, with his heart condition he wasn't allowed to play sports. He did like to play football in the front yard though!

20. What could he spend hours doing? In the summer he could spend hours working in the yard and garden. He loves working with his plants and doing landscaping.

21. What's something cool about him? The "coolest" thing about Neal is his love for our family. He would rather be home with us than anywhere else. It was not a problem at all when he had to spend two months at home earlier this year. It was hard for us to have him leave and go back to work!

Neal is a great husband and father and I love him very much!

I'm From...

I found this on an old blog of mine. I wrote this in 2005, and thought I'd share it again. I may even add a few things:

I am from a home where love was never questioned.

I am from a small town where there were no stop lights.

I am from a town where my neighbor was a famous baseball manager, but I only knew him as Smokey.

I am from summers anxiously awaiting the arrival of the Book-Mobile and reading the Boxcar Children.

I am from a time when I could go for a bike ride around the neighborhood, go to the store, or walk to a friend's house and all my Mom worried about was me being careful crossing the street.

I am from a time when we drank Pepsi from a 16 oz. bottle and then turned in the empty bottles for change.

I am from watching The Wonderful World of Disney at 7:00 on Sundays, and watching Hee Haw on Saturday nights.

I am from a time when Elvis was King...and it was a sad day when he died.

I am from a time of catching lightening bugs, playing hide and seek, playing Spud, and sitting on the front porch and just talking.

I am from a family who went to church every Sunday, prayed before every meal, and prayed together at bedtime.

I am from a time of 4-H and learning to sew, cook and garden.

I am from a small elementary school where we all grew up together and everyone knew your parents.

I am from a church that memorized scripture verses through BMA and went to camp in Georgia every summer.

I am from a time when Daddy's worked hard, and Mommy's were there to take care of us when we got home from school.

I am from a time that was very safe and happy.

-----------------------------------------------------

2008

I'm from a time of having popcorn and pop on Sunday nights (it was a special treat!)

I'm from a time of playing Barbies for hours at a time.

I'm from a time of watching The Six Million Dollar Man and the Bionic Woman (and I wanted to be the Bionic Woman!)

I'm from a home where sports was always on...either on the TV or on the radio.

I'm from a home that rooted for the Cincinnati Reds and the Cincinnati Bengals.

I'm from a home that respected the office of President of the United States...even if you didn't agree with him.

I'm from a family that had lots and lots of aunts, uncles and cousins!

I'm from a home that had three children: two boys and a girl.

I'm from a time of playing softball at the local park.

I'm from a time of dropping by someone's house without having to call and schedule it weeks in advance!

I'm from a home where we ate supper together every evening.

I'm from a home where my parents watched the evening news together while they drank their last cup of coffee for the night.

I'm from a home where my mom made homemade meals every night, and there was usually a homemade dessert to go with it.

I'm from a time where I remember when we got our first microwave and our first clothes dryer.

I'm from a time when getting a 10-speed bike was really cool!

I'm from parents who loved me and supported me in whatever I chose to do!

Meme about the Hubby!

I found this at "Diary of a SAHM" and thought it sounded like fun.

1. Who is your man?
Neal, wonderful husband and Daddy, hard worker, possessor of a Mechanical Engineering degree, but works more as a sales manager. Since April of this year he's been my $100,000 man! (wow, heart surgery sure is expensive!)

2. How long have you been together?
18 years next month (September 22, 1990, was our first date)

3. How long dated?
Five months! He knew a good thing when he saw it! ;o)

4. How old is your man?
He is 41 years old

He did

7. Who is taller?
He is, but not by much -- just two inches.

8. Who sings better?
We can both carry a tune okay, but we're not great singers. I guess we're about equal there.

9. Who is smarter?
Depends on what subject you're talking about! He has the most education, so I'll give him this one!

10. Whose temper is worse?
Oooohhh, I think we're about equal here too. I lose it quicker, but when he loses it it's not pretty!

Me

I do because I'm home, but he's a good cook, too.

18. Who drives when you are together?
I did after his surgery, but he's been driving lately.

19. Who pays when you go out?
He does, but it's coming from the same pot!

20. Who is most stubborn?
Again we're about the same, but if I had to chose one of us I'd say him (he'd probably say me!)

21. Who is the first to admit when they are wrong?
How can I admit to something when I'm never wrong? ;o)

22. Whose parents do you see the most? I guess we see my mom most often since she lives in our terrace apartment. But Neal's parents live next door!

23. Who kissed who first?
I hugged him first and he kissed me first.

24. Who asked who out?
I asked him out! I needed a date to a play. He and I were working together with the youth at church and I thought he'd be fun to go out with. We were married 5 months later!

25. Who proposed?
He did (yes, I let him propose!)

26. Who is the most sensitive?
Definitely me!

27. Who has more friends?

Again -- the same! Only he has two sisters and I have two brothers.

29. Who wears the pants in the family?
Well, we both wear pants...but he's the head of our home.

30. How did you meet?
In the singles group at our church.

Teresa Needs...

I found this on Jennifer's blog and thought it would be fun. Here's what you do:

The challenge is to google your name and the word "needs" and tell us the first 13 things it says.

So here's what *Teresa needs*...

1. Teresa needs to lay off the sauce! (*hiccup* "Whatchu talkin' 'bout?")

2. Teresa needs one more miracle to become a saint. (The kids and I were talking about saints this morning...if I only knew then that I only need one more miracle...)

5. Teresa needs YOU! (When did I replace Uncle Sam?)

6. Teresa needs a finishing school as she is a crude classless act. (Excuuuuse me?)

7. Teresa needs her fans, but she doesn't need them to be so aggressive and over- promoting. (One fan at a time, please!)

8. Teresa needs to come on board. (I'd like to go on board an ocean liner to Hawaii!)

9. Teresa needs to build her own solid foundation, and investing time and energy into her home, domestic relationships, and inner life. (Who's been reading my diary?)

10. Teresa needs to raise $6500.00. (I don't need to raise $6,500, but I do need to raise about $1,300 for mine and Beth's mission's trip to Mexico in January!)

11. Teresa needs to confirm her commitment to her new unmarried life. (HUH???!!!)

12. Teresa needs a doctor. (Do you know something I don't???)

and, finally, what does Teresa need?

13. Teresa needs to be praised! (Thank you...thank you, very much!)

What about YOU...what do you need?

6 Word Philosphy of Life

My friend Amy tagged me today to do this meme. This was a tough one! Here's what you have to do:

1. Link to the person who tagged you. Check!

2. Post the rules. Check!

3. Share a 6 word philosophy of life Check!

4. Tag 3 other people (I won't tag anyone, but if you do this please let me know!)

So here's my philosphy (btw, I know I cheated a bit by using a couple of contractions. ;o)

When I'm weak, then I'm strong!

On Sunday morning when we had our "church service" with the kids, everyone shared what they had learned during the past few weeks. My answer was "When I am weak, then I am strong." That comes from 2 Corinthians chapter 12. Paul wrote these words:

2 Corinthians 12:7-10 (NASB)

7Because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations, for this reason, to keep me from exalting myself, there was given me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to torment me--to keep me from exalting myself!

8Concerning this I implored the Lord three times that it might leave me.

9And He has said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness " Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me.

10Therefore I am well content with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christ's sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong.

The Lord really proved this to me over and over these past several weeks, and I thank Him for strengthening me through these trials!

Seven Random Facts about Teresa:

1. My name is Teresa and I am called Teresa...not Terri. Not that there's anything wrong with that name, but when I introduce myself as Teresa, please do not say "Nice to meet you, Terri." (been there, done that...cringed)

2. On Thursday of last week I found out that Hydrogen Peroxide is a great blood stain remover. That may explain why I was strangely happy when Neal cut his finger on a nail Friday and got blood on the carpet. Sick, huh?

3. I was also sickly excited when Ben had a nosebleed Saturday morning and I had another blood stain to clean up.

4. Hydrogen Peroxide does work in cleaning up blood stains!

5. I have a calendar fetish. I have a calendar in almost every room in my house: kitchen, school room, Beth's room, Ben's room, the kids bathroom, and our bathroom. I also carry a pocket sized calendar in my purse.

6. After two years, I am almost finished with the "read the Bible through in a year" plan! Maybe I'll make it through in one year in 2009!

7. I am opposed to "Blu Ray Discs." Why can't they stop at DVDs and leave well enough alone!

Okay, that's it about me. Here's who I tag:

1. Amy
2. Andi
3. Jenny
4. Lyn
5. Sarah
6. Anthony
7. Marsha
Jeremiah 29:11

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
